7/24/08 - Chris Carter, Simon Pegg, and Bean and Dave's Gay Love Song

posted Thursday, 24 July 2008

Listen to all of the day's segments at the K&B Archive.

Happy birthday to K&B Superfan (and comic artist) Paul Lee. In his honor, Psycho Mike played his Asian version of "Lean Like a Cholo".  Ralph wanted to have a talk with him after the show.

I didn't hear the break about the jetpack, but apparently Bean wants to buy a new jetpack that's been invented that runs for 30 minutes on regular gasoline.

7:12 - Listener Call-In: Things You Did Because Oprah Said To
I didn't hear the callers, but the discussion came up because Bean's wife recently replaced his treasured pillow after she saw Oprah's show on pillow germs. Kevin's wife replaced all their light bulbs with compact flourescents after she saw an Oprah show.  Oprah's power over women is damn scary, and the boys asked for listeners' stories.

8:15 - Simon Pegg

The British star of Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz came into the studio to promote a DVD release of a TV series that practically no one has ever seen or heard of here. Called Spaced, it was shown on BBC America years ago, and one of the episodes was the inspiration for Shaun of the Dead. It has somewhat of a cult following, shown by Kevin Smith's commentary in the DVD. Simon also talked about working with Megan Fox (!) and filming J.J. Abrams' Star Trek movie (he got an email from J.J. out of the blue that simply said, "Want to play Scotty?").

8:46 - Bean and Dave: Sitting in a Tree!
We all know that Bean has social problems. Yet oddly, the King of Mexico has become a close friend of his, even staying over at his house twice on vacations.  No one else on the crew has even ever received so much as an invitation.  Ralph and Kevin wondered was going on, and Bean noted that Dave was such a laid back, easy to get along with, super low-maintenance guy. Whereas everyone else was hypercritical of him. Dave simply pointed out that he was just a "rad" guy. In their honor, they played a tender gay love song written and sung by Psycho Mike . Kevin pointed out that now that gay marriage is legal in CA, the 2 could embrace their love.

9:12 - Chris Carter
A very tired Chris Carter came into the studio to promote the new X-Files movie . Sadly, despite answering questions about what he's been doing in the years since the show ended (surfing, learning to fly planes, etc.), enduring fan support, why they didn't do the sequel sooner (the FOX lawsuit got in the way), and who got the ball rolling (David Duchovny), he didn't reveal a single clue about what the movie was about. Regardless, Ralph, who saw it at a premiere screening last night, loved its, mix of scariness, humor, depth, and acting. strong fan support, other projects can't talk about (movies), and not one clue about the movie. xfiles.com.

Tomorrow: Ralph's Movie Beat, David Duchovny, Joe Rogan, Pscyho Mike asks South Central-ians about Barack Obama, and Elizabeth Moss from Mad Men.
