11/17/06 - Tenacious D, Melissa's Toy Drive, Adam Goldberg, Jimmy, and the Raider House

posted Friday, 17 November 2006

Happy birthday to Ralph!

6:22 - Psycho Mike Visits The Raider House
Psycho Mike noticed a newly remodeled house next to his buddy's that was completely redone in Raider colors!  We're talking reflective metallic trim, black paint, black roof, and Raider decals plastered all over it. Intrigued, Mike took his microphone and talked to some of the neighbors.  One guy joked (well, half jokingly probably) that he didn't want his kids going anywhere near a Raider fan, nor the house.  Finally, Mike, scared of the owner (and assuming he wasn't home), jumped over the fence to look around the backyard. Here was the kicker: the guy WAS home, and came out and confronted Mike!  Lucikly for Mike, he was one of the coolest guys he ever met, even tolerating Mike's usual provacative questions ("So how do you medicate yourself after yet another Raiders loss?").  Bean was doubtful: "Obviously he's a faker.  I'm very disapointed with his behavior."

6:40 - Ralph Character: Crazy Tom on his Wedding
The press-proclaimed "Wedding of the Century" is here, and Tom called the boys from his Italy hotel room, which was filled with cats. Cats?? Yup, apparently they are part of the traditional Scientology wedding ceremony.  Also: "Did you know that in Italy, cats are used as street drugs?  I had them shipped from the KROQ parking lot!"

7:10 - A Christmas Toy Drive
Kevin's hot-sounding wife Melissa dropped in to promote a toy drive that she and Kevin are holding through the charity that she runs, called Friends and Helpers. They'll both be at Galpin Auto Sports (405 and Roscoe) tomorrow, Saturday, from 12-2.  They're calling for toys, electronics, baby toys, gift cards, anything but are especially looking for AMC movie passes.  They'll also take household products like blankets, sheets, dishes, etc. Her charity helps abused women and children, because, sadly an ex-husband of hers once abused her.  Although I would think being married to Kevin has to be almost as painful...

Chester Bennington from Linkin Park also dropped by to help promote it, and also talked about the success of their Katrina drive a few months ago.  Regarding Linkin Park news, they're close to finishing their new album, which should be available by spring 2007.

7:45 - Jimmy Kimmel

Can you believe that our little ex-K&B Sports Guy?  Not only is he hosting a freaking network talk show, he's now hosting the American Music Awards.  It's on Tuesday night at 8, and features artists like Gwen Stefani, Snow Patrol, Snoop, Beyonce, the Pussycat Dolls, Jay-Z, Tenacious D, Weird Al, and...Barry Manilow??    Bean thanked Jimmy for getting Barry to  autograph a whiffle ball bat for him, which is now Bean's most treasured object in his life.   On Weird Al, Kevin mentioned his anger of being somehow put on the singer's annoying mailing list.  When Jimmy admitted he was the cuplprit, a suprised Kevin cursed him out.  Ah, good times.

8:13 - Ralph's Movie Beat

Bobby - "Never thought I'd ever say that I can't wait for an Emilio Estevez movie....especially after Men At Work, where he was a wacky garbageman!" A dramatized version of the day Robert F. Kennedy was killed, with a star-studded cast.

Fast Food Nation - Turns out that there are bad things in the fast food we eat.

For Your Consideration - Woo hoo!  Another Christopher Guest & Company movie!  This one's about a gang of actors shooing a small independent film, who find out they've been tagged with major awards buzz.   "Any Guest movie, I'm there!"    Fred Willard was scorned for stiffing the boys earlier in the morning.

Happy Feet - Ralph was suprised that he was looking forward to see this animated singing/dancing penguin movie,  finding himself oddly riveted during commercials.  No one else cared.

Let's Go to Prison - Ralph spewed the hate for this piece of crap.  But Kevin actually thought it looked funny, preferring it over Happy Feet!  Bean noted he'd rather see Happy Feet 30 times compared to the trailer for this one again.

Casino Royale -  Ralph's a dedicated Bond fan, and is anxiously awaiting this one.  He still carried scars from the Timothy Dalton Bond.

8:33 - Tenacious D
Tenacious D in: The Pick of Destiny doesn't open until Wednesday (well, technically midnight Tuesday), but Jack Black and Kyle Gass came in-studio to promote it.  Ralph saw it, and loved it, calling it one of the great stoner movies of all time.  They're playing at the Gibson Amphitheater tonight and tomorrow night, and were a little embarrassed that there are plenty of tickets still available.

They then sang song a song on the movie soundtrack, called "Dude, I Totally Miss You", and Jack accidentally let an F bomb slip, caught by Kevin

Somehow they started talking about farting tips: pull down your pants when you let one rip, so that they don't get smelly, and you can wear them longer with washing them.  They then serenaded Ralph with their own version of Happy Birthday, which was far less creepy than William Shatner's to Bean.

9:00 - Ralph Showbiz Beat

The movie reviewer for the leading newspaper in Kazakhstan called Borat the best film of the year!  Yet, the moviefilm is still banned there.  Go figure.

A statue of Shakira will be erected (snort!) in her home country of Colombia.  It will be a whopping 15 feet tall, weighing 6 tons!

The stars are arriving for Tom and Katie's wedding.  Jennifer Lopez is on the list too, which is pretty amazing to Ralph.  Insert 'always room for J-Lo' joke, to lusty boos from Kevin.

Happy birthday to Ralph and...Gordon Lightfoot!  Of course, Bean played his signature song, Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald over everyone's pleas not to.   Kevin grumpily anointed as the worst song ever, and gave it another lusty "BOOOOO!"  Bean wanted to play it in place of Don't Bogart, but Ralph noted that KROQ has a policy against playing songs with the words "Gitche Gumee" in them.

9:15 - Adam Goldberg
The funny and talkative Adam Goldberg talked about his new movie, Deja Vu, which opens next Wednesday.  It stars the hack of an actor Denzel Washington, and is about ATF agents who discover a wormhole and use it to stop a crime from happening.  He launched into a time travel explanation, but Kevin was worried the movie would be too confusing for him.    Bean thought it would be as well, pointing out that Kevin wanted to see Let's Go to Prison, for crying out loud!

Lightning with a rapping pluh-zug: he'll be at the Verizon store at the Beverly Connection tomorrow, from noon-2.

Bean: "Ladies, Ralph works hard for the show - the least you can do is send some boob shots to him for his birthday!"  Amen!

Have a great weekend, and don't bogart that joint,  my friends!

I started a topic at Grupthink that asks: Why are Kevin & Bean so Great? What's the best part of the Kevin & Bean show, that makes them the best thing on the radio in the morning, every morning? What's your favorite Kevin & Bean thing? Go here to vote in the poll: http://www.grupthink.com/topic/3073 (this is NOT spam, but rather more of a survey/poll for K&B listeners that I thought might be interesting)
