10/23/06 - Queen Mary Hauntings, Bizarre Deaths, and The Armenian Comedian's Phone Calls

posted Monday, 23 October 2006

Sorry, I missed Prison Break's Dominic Purcell, and Deliver Us From Evil's Amy Berg.

7:36 - Ralph Character: Kim Jong Il's Apology
Have you heard that there are reports that Kim Jong Il is now apologizing for testing nuclear weapons?? What's his deal?  The boys called him up, and found out that Kim didn't realize that's what Bush meant when he warned the North Korean dictator from testing "nu-cu-lar" weapons!  Kim also sang his own version of Nirvana's "All Apologies", in the first person.

8:10 - Halloween Singles Party Costumes

Listeners vied for tickets to the "Scare the Ship Out of You" Halloween Singles Party aboard the Queen Mary this Friday, by revealing what interesting costumes they were planning to wear.

8:27 - The Armenian Comedian's Calls

We listeners only have to suffer listening to Sam maybe once a month.  But apparently, Lightning has to answer calls from him at least once every single DAY!  He even counted 110 over a 3 month period!  In fact, now, he just holds up the phone and asks if everyone in the room wants to talk to Sam.  So Lightning put together a montage of Sam's messages into a funny little musical piece, and played it.

8:40 - Bizarre Deaths
Author Michael Largo called in to talk about his book, Final Exits: The Illustrated Encyclopedia of How We Die.  It describes some of the ways people have died, from swallowing dentures, to frozen toilets and sleepwalking into an industrial dryer.  He scoured death records from throughout history over a period of 10 years.  Good times.

9:11 - Ghosts in the Queen Mary
Will Cane, Exhibits Coordinator on The Queen Mary called in to talk about real-life hauntings that the Queen Mary is famous for.  Security, hotel guests, and enineers have reported things like water being turned on, lights going on and off, and blankets being tugged. Babies have been known to suddenly cry, and little kids have reported seing legless ghosts on ship tours.   They currently have their annual Shipwreck Terror Fest, where fake ghosts are roaming in place of the real ones.

9:42 - What It Do Nephew?

A listener felt betrayed that Bean is ending his blog early!  The others chastised the listener, and Bean admitted that he lost some some of his incentive in keeping it up when the Raiders won their first game over the weekend.

Speaking of the haunted Queen Mary, a gal is part of a "ghost research group", and invited people to join them as they go around So Cal looking for ghosts.  Kevin gave he the buzz, and when she started to give their website address, it was so long and complex that everyone else started hilariously railing against her.

The Chicago marathon winner slipped and fell on his ass just before breaking the finish line tape! All agreed that while marathons are boring, that sounded worth watching.

A movie starring Kevin Federline?? Say it ain't so!   Bean noted that although excusable as a novelty act like William Hung, there's no way he could carry an entire movie.  Although Kevin pointed out that he'd totally be interested in a William Hung movie.

Tomorrow: more singles party tickets, a search for the most-arrested KROQ listener (the boys are guessing 20 times.  One guy in the midwest has been arrested 226 times!), Chris Rock's mom is crazy, and Security Guard Charles in Charge.
