Listen to all today's segments at the K&B Archive, here.
7:10 - Ralph Recaps Trapped in the Closet, Chapter 16
Only in R Kelly's world can there be this big revelation: a lesbian affair between a girl with an overly-twitchy-eye and a gal with a "fever blister face".
7:25 - The King of Kong
Remember when Kevin Smith mentioned this documentary, The King of Kong, a few months ago? It's about a geek's obsessive, heartbreaking, hilarious, inspiring, enthralling quest to be the greatest Donkey Kong player in the world. The K&B gang has seen it, and utterly loved it, so they had its producer, its director, and the main subject of the movie Steve Wiebe all come in-studio to talk about it. They talked about too many funny, amazing stuff for me to recap - so just listen to the segment.
8:10 - Frank Caliendo
The comedian who does their John Madden character talked about the upcoming football season, his upcoming TV show (Frank TV), and the characters he does in his stand-up act. As usual, he dizzingly switched between voices, but his best was his impersonation of Al Pacino, ranting about the bizarreness of Donkey Kong at the end. He'll be at the Irvine Improv tonight through Sunday.
8:40 - Ralph Character: Criss Angel and Britney
The douchiest of all douchebags is now banging Britney?? Yup. In fact, reportedly, he'll be doing an act with her at the VMAs. It may involve making her kids disappear...
8:58 - Ralph Movie Beat
The Invasion - Yet another remake of Invasion of the Body Snatchers (there have been 4 or 5), this time with Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig. Ralph's favorite was the one with Donald Sutherland from the 70s. He's not excited about this one.
The 11th Hour - Leonardo's global warming documentary. "It's like Al Gore's movie...without all the fun. They should just called this movie, 'We're Horked.'"
Death at a Funeral - Things go awry at a funeral. Looks very funny, directed by Muppeteer Frank Oz!
The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters - As they talked about earlier, a documentary about a geek's quest to become the greatest Donkey Kong player in the world. "The most entertaining, engaging movie I've seen this year. Just a great film, I guarantee you're going to like it." It's only playing at the Landmark Nuart on Sawtelle and Santa Monica.
Superbad - Another movie Ralph has actually seen this week. "A classic teenage sex comedy. heartfelt, raunchy, lustful, and outrageous. Everything you want in a teen movie."
9:17 - Seth Rogen
The Superbad actor talked about how he started writing its script since he was a mere 13 years old. Naturally, it has gone through many drafts since. They had also been trying to sell it to studios for 8 years. 400 f-bombs in the script made it a little hard do that. So where does the title of the movie come from? Seth revealed that it was a completely random title that his writing partner just threw out one day! It had nothing to do with the movie, but Seth liked it, and it stuck.
9:35 - Ralph Character: The Chinese Export Minister's Evil Plan
Toys. Dog food. Toothpaste. What's up with these defective/dangerous products coming from China? The boys called up the Chinese Export Minister (named 'Dang-Lee Wang') to find out. It turns out they're trying to take down the hated Americans! He revealed some new products coming this Christmas, like "Spongebob Nitroglycerin Pants", "Choke Me Elmo", "Big Bird Flu", and "Dora the Exploder". Worst of all though, is their plot to make Ryan Seacrest host the Superbowl broadcast! Nooooo! "We are EVIL!"
Monday: Bob Saget, the 5 worst movie plots of all-time, Trapped in the Closet 17, and a recap of Dave's visit to Bean's house.
That's me doing the "Super Bowl Seacrest" on the Afro Calls! (see archive)
Dude, "King of Kong" sounds like the shiznit. I hope they bring it out in
wider release.
As a gamer, I'm glad the guys and Lisa paid serious attention to the
culture. I grew up in the Super NES/N64 era, but I'm glad that gaming now
spans generations and is gaining much more respect!
OMFG, Caliendo was freaking hilarious!!! I had to listen each voice like 5
times on the archive to take in all of the insanity, but that dude is a
genius! I agree, the video game references with Pacino on D.K. (and Madden
on Mario!) were perfect! Wish I had the time and/or money to see him live!
